Abstract

958,197. Cable terminations. PYROTENAX Ltd. April 29, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 16705/63. Heading H2E. A device for sealing the end of a metalsheathed, mineral insulated cable, comprises a pot or cylinder A (Fig. 1), one end of which is secured over the cable sheath B, together with a closure member E, at the other end of the pot, through which member the cable core C or cores may extend, and, projecting from the member E, a nozzle F, for the core or each core, through which the core may pass, each nozzle having a circumferentially ridged interior surface for receiving a flexible insulating sleeve G. For a single core cable, the pot A is applied over the end of the core C, previously stripped of its insulating sheathing B, and screwed on to the dressed end of the sheath, by means of a screwthread A<SP>1</SP> which cuts into the sheath B. After filling the pot with insulating paste D, the insulating disc E is fitted and secured against shoulders A<SP>3</SP> by crimping over the rim of the pot at A<SP>4</SP>. The projecting nozzle F is integrally formed with the disc E, which may be of polyethylene or polypropylene. The sleeve G, which may be of neoprene, is easily pushed over the nozzle, but ridges F<SP>2</SP>, F<SP>3</SP> prevent easy removal. A disc formed with two nozzles (Fig. 2, not shown) may be used for a two-core cable. The nozzles may be formed separate from the disc E and are suitably shaped from resilient plastics material, to snap-fit into the disc (Fig. 5, not shown). In an alternative single core arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown), the pot is externally threaded to receive a cap J which retains the disc E and a modified nozzle K.
