Abstract

1,190,267. Cable terminations. PYROTENAX Ltd. 3 May, 1967 [3 May. 1966], No. 19409/66. Heading H2E. The end-sealing means of a mineral insulated cable A comprises a mass B of thermoplastics insulating material moulded directly around the cable end so that the cable conductors A3 project therefrom, such thermoplastics mass including an overlap portion formed around the cable sheath A1 to extend in the axial direction along the sheath for a distance not less than half the outside diameter of the sheath, the overlap portion having a radial thickness of not less than 0.02 of an inch. A short extension B<1> is formed around each projecting cable conductor on which an insulating sleeve C of neoprene or polyvinylchloride is fitted. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the thermoplastics insulating material, which may be nylon, polyethylene or polypropylene, is moulded around the insulating sleeve C itself to retain it. If the mass B is cylindrical it may be formed with an external screw-thread to provide for the attachment of a cable fitting.
