Abstract

956,975. Electric incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 11, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 13014/61. Heading H1F. A gas filled incandescent lamp designed for use with its longitudinal axis horizontal comprises a substantially cylindrical bulb containing a filament and a screen system located above the filament and adjacent the uppermost inner surface of the bulb, the system being such that the stream of hot gas ascending from the filament during operation is caused to flow substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the bulb. The screen comprises two strips e.g. of nickel gauze, parallel to the longitudinal axis, one on each side of the vertical plane through the filament and lying either in parallel planes or in planes inclined so as to intersect at or below the filament. The lamp comprises a bulb 1 with a filament 2 formed of coiled-coil sections secured by wires 8 to glass rods 9 mounted on stay rods 6, 7 which are also connected by leads 5 to the filament and serve as leading in wires, and a lamp cap 3 having axial contact pins 4. The screen consists of two strips 10 supported by a transverse strip 12 carried by the stay rod 6.
