A tungsten-halogen lamp comprises two planar filaments 11, 12 arranged one in front of the other, the spacing between the filaments being greater at the top than at the bottom. The filaments are suspended from silica bridges 16 carried by lead-in rods 17 the upper ends of which are provided with coils 24 located in tubes 25 on the inside of the silica envelope 13.
