Abstract

1,176,438. Electric incandescent lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 8 Nov., 1968 [8 Nov., 1967], No. 53138/68. Heading H1F. In a quartz halogen lamp the lead-in wires 4, 5, which are at least partially embedded in a supporting quartz rod 6 are encircled by short coils of wire 7, 9 in the region of embedment to ensure a more secure joint. A wire 10 supporting the midpoint of the filament is also embedded in the rod 6 and encircled by a coil 8. The wires 4, 5, 10 are made of tungsten and are respectively 35 mils, 28 mils and 18 mils in diameter, and each coil is made of tungsten wire about half the diameter of the wire it encircles and is hot crimped thereon. The coils may be wound with the turns touching (100% pitch) or with a 200% pitch so that the quartz flows between the turns. The lamp contains a bromine-nitrogen atmosphere.
