Abstract

1,241,196. Incandescent lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 6 Nov., 1968 [6 Nov., 1967], No. 52586/68. Heading H1F. A high-powered tungsten-halogen filament lamp with a quartz envelope 1 is provided with tungsten lead-in wires 2, 3, the longer wire 2 being supported at its upper end by tungsten or tungsten-rhenium wire coils 12 which are wrapped around the wire 2 and whose ends extend to make contact with the envelope 1. Further similar coils 6 wrapped around the wires 2 and 3 serve as connectors to the filaments 5. The ends of the coils 12 are bent inwardly by their contact with the envelope so as to maintain the turns of the coils under tension. The turns of the coils 6 are similarly held under tension by one shorter end being hooked around the other longer end, which is bent at its extremity and threaded into the primary turns of the coiled-coil filaments 5. This tensioning of the coils ensure that they are securely clamped to the lead-in wires 2, 3 and that the coils 6 are in good electrical contact therewith. The envelope may be filled withnitrogen and bromine to a pressure of about one atmosphere.
