Abstract

1,116,820. Electric lamps with built-in fuses. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 23 Sept., 1965 [29 Oct., 1964], No. 40606/65. Heading H1F. The lamp, which may be a tubular doubleended lamp containing an inert gas and a small quantity of halogen, especially iodine, has a coiled-coil filament 2 attached to a lead-in wire 3 welded to a molybdenum foil 4, in turn welded to an outer lead-in wire 5, the parts 3, 4. 5 being sealed in a pinch seal, and is fitted with a cap 15 in which is a contact member 7 carrying a wire 11 also embedded in the pinch but insulated from the wire 5, the wire 5 and contact 7 being connected by a fuse wire 14. The end of the wire 11 may be bent at an angle or be of flattened spade shape and the end of the wire 5 may be V-shaped with the bight welded to the foil 4. The end of the coil 2 can be welded direct to the foil 4. The cap 15 has a slot 16 to fit over the flattened pinch. Fuses may be provided at one or both ends of the lamp.
