Abstract

1,172,175. Electric incandescent lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 28 March, 1968 [12 April, 1967], No. 14885/68. Heading H1F. A mount 11 is formed by bending a length of lead-in wire into a hairpin shape having substantially parallel legs 9 and a widened bight, fusing the legs adjacent the bight into a glass bead 5, securing a filament 8 to opposite sides of the bight, and severing the mid-portion of the bight to produce a pair of lead-in wires having inwardly directed ends 10. The ends 10 may be separated by displacing them laterally relative to one another or by removing a section at the centre of the bight. The mount is sealed into one end of a glass tube 14 so that the tube coalesces with the bead 5, and the tube is then necked-in above the filament 8, exhausted, and tipped off to form a complete lamp. The tip may be removed by grinding and a base (24, Fig. 12, not shown) fitted if required. The lead-in wire preferably consists of "dumet".
