Abstract

990,724. Electric incandescent lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 30, 1964 [Feb. 20, 1963], No. 3987/64. Heading H1F. In lamps of the type having an elongated tubular envelope of, e.g. glass or quartz and a coiled filament extending longitudinally between lead-in wires passing through the sealed ends of the envelope, a fusible element is connected between one end of the filament and the adjacent lead-in conductor and one end of a support element is overwound in interposed relation with the primary coils of a portion of the filament, the other end being embedded in the adjacent seal. The filament 3, e.g. a coiled-coil of tungsten, terminates in straight portions 4, 7, the latter being of reduced diameter to form a fuze, which are connected to foliated portions 6, 8 of lead-in conductors 5, 9 embedded in the pinch seals 2 of the tubular envelope 1. One end 11 of a support member 10 is embedded in the pinch seal 2 adjacent the portion of the filament 7 of reduced diameter, the other end 12 being formed as a helix of the same pitch as the filament coil and having an inside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the filament coil, around which it is wound.
