Abstract

1,023,137. Electric incandescent lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 3, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 26371/63. Heading H1F. A gas-filled iodine lamp comprises a vessel having a filament wound wholly or partly into a helix, the ends of the filament extending into one or more pouches secured to leading-in members within the pouches, and a screening member within the vessel which prevents part of the light from the filament reaching part of the vessel. In one form, a V-shaped filament 20 has straight ends 20b, 20c united to faces 22, 23 embedded in a common pinch 21. Nickel supply wires 24, 25 are converted to the faces 22, 23. The ends 20b, 20c are surrounded by sleeves 28, 29 of helicallywound tungsten wire, which lower the temperature of these parts of the filament so that they do not emit light. In another form, a double-ended lamp is mounted in a parabolic reflector, the upper and lower parts of which have different foci between which the helical part of the filament extends. A slightly curved screen of platinum is supported within the lamp above the end of the filament lying between the focus and the apex of the reflector.
