Abstract

May 6, 1960 [May 6, 1959], No.16036/60 Heading D1S [Also in Division F4] A textile treating machine comprises at least two treatment devices 9, 9<SP>1</SP> carried in or by a common housing in which they are guided for relative linear movement transversely with respect to the direction of travel of the fabric 3 being treated thereby to adjust the effective width of treatment of the fabric 3, and means connected with the devices 9, 9<SP>1</SP> to adjust the effective treatment area of the devices in proportion to the width to which they are adjusted, whereby the treatment medium per unit area treated remains substantially constant. The fabric 3 is held by stenter clips 2 on a guide rail 1. Above and below the fabric web units are arranged and each comprises a fan 4 and a distributer 5 for a gaseous treatment medium, heating elements 6 being provided. A central fixed nozzle 8 and two movable nozzles 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are fitted to a manifold 7, the nozzles 9, 9<SP>1</SP> being slidable in guide rails secured to edges 10. A channel 11 is secured so that the inner end of each of the nozzles 9 , 9<SP>1</SP> is held between the lateral wall of the nozzle 8 and the flange of the channel 11. Connecting elements 12,13 displace the nozzles 9, 9<SP>1</SP> in relation to transverse movement of the rails 1. The blast slits of the movable nozzles 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are shut off, more or less, by the channels 11 over a length corresponding to the depth of penetration of the nozzles into the channel 11. The fixed nozzle 8 may be omitted. Also, the channel 11 may be omitted and vertical tongues provided in the nozzles 9, 9<SP>1</SP>. The blast nozzles may be replaced by radiant heating bodies or ultrasonic vibrators.
