Abstract

955,020. Fabric treating apparatus. SIR JAMES FARMER NORTON & CO. Ltd. March 27, 1963 [April 4, 1962], No. 12906/62. Heading D1L. In a machine for washing fabric in open width, the fabric is passed between a series of liquid sprays and a corrugated plate arranged so that the sprays press the fabric against the plate, the orifices through which the sprays issue being so shaped as to cause the sprays to acquire a fan-like shape. In the device shown cloth 2 is guided by rollers 3 through a tank 1 and over corrugated plates 4 situated in the tank. A plurality of horizontal pipes 5, joined by a manifold (not shown) to a source of water under pressure, are arranged on the side of the cloth 2 remote from each plate 4, and each pipe 5 has a number of spray nozzles 6 spaced along its length. The nozzles 6 are in the form of slots or square-or rectangular holes so as to produce a fan-like spray to spread the wash liquor more uniformly over the face of cloth 2. The plates 4 may be provided with holes to enable circulation of the water.
