Abstract

A fabric mercerising machine includes in the caustic treatment a series of sets of pressure rollers arranged one above the other, a series of nozzles disposed along the rollers <PICT:0917444/IV (b)/1> to spray caustic solution on the fabric and, in the expanding chamber, a series of expanding rollers arranged one above the other with nozzles disposed along the rollers to spray a heating fluid on to the fabric. In the arrangement shown fabric from pile 1 passes through tensioners 2, 2a; guides 3 and expanders 4 into caustic tank A. The fabric passes down through pairs of fluid loaded pressure rollers 5 and 6 and is sprayed by sets of nozzles 7 with caustic solution from tank 8a. The fabric passes out of the caustic tank under squeezing roller 12 and passes to the stabilisation air chamber B. Thereafter it proceeds to the set of expanding rollers 20 in chamber C where it is sprayed with hot water from nozzles 23. The fabric is then squeezed in rollers 24 and thereafter passes into a steam chamber D for further stabilization and thence into neutralisation tank E. The fabric is then squeezed under roller 33 and led through cold water wash tanks F, F1 and piled by platting device 44.
