Abstract

1385117 Treating fibrous materials ASAHIKASEI KOGYO KK 6 Oct 1972 [7 Oct 1971] 46149/72 Heading D1L Apparatus for continuously heat-treating fibrous material 19 comprises a tube 1 including a treatment chamber 2 fed with a pressurized heated treatment medium through inlet 15, sealing chambers 3 and 3' located at the fibrous material inlet and outlet to the chamber, pipes 9 and 9' for introducing sealing fluid to the sealing chambers via pump or 'blower 16 and overflow chambers 4 for the sealing fluid ejected from the chambers 3, 3'. As illustrated in Fig. 2 the sealing chambers 3, 3 'are formed by inclined plates 6, 6' and the upper and lower parts of blank flange 5. Lips 20, 20' are provided on flange 5 and form a clearance B for passage of the fiibrous material to chamber 2. The sealing fluid in chambers 3, 3' is ejected under pressure against the fibrous material through clearance A, A between lips 20, 20' and plates 6, 6' at a pressure equal to the pressure of treatment medium in chamber 2 and thus effectively prevent fluid leakage from the treatment chamber. Sealing fluid entering overflow chamber 4 may, in the case of air, be vented to atmosphere or, as illustrated, when a liquid (e.g. water) is used may be returned to reservoir 11 via pipe 10. The treatment medium may be superheated steam for use in stretching, annealing relaxing etc synthetic fibres. Use of the apparatus in finishing treatments such as dyeing, bleaching and scouring is also mentioned.
