Abstract

1,133,287. Textile treating apparatus. BURLINGTON INDUSTRIES, Inc. 20 April, 1967, No. 18307/67. Heading D1L. Apparatus for the continuous treatment of textile material in rope form comprises at least two vessels containing a treating liquid, a first conduit having an inlet end for admission of material in rope form, and an outlet end above the first vessel, jet means within the conduit adjacent a liquid inlet thereto for conveying the material through the conduit, the liquid being fed under pressure from the first vessel, a second conduit having a material inlet above the first vessel and a material outlet above the second vessel, jet means supplied with liquid under pressure from the second vessel being within the second conduit adjacent a liquid inlet thereto, the jet means serving to convey the material through the conduit, and means being provided for removing the material from the second vessel. The vessels are preferably in the form of J- boxes 10, 12, 14 which may or may not be pressurised. Each J-box comprises an inlet and an outlet chamber 16, 18, the outlet chamber 18 being preferably provided with positively driven metering rolls which are synchronised to the rate of feed to the inlet chamber 16 of the subsequent J-box. Liquid from the J-boxes is withdrawn by means of a pump P and fed to conduit 40 conveying the material T to that J-box, the jet means 38 preferably being an annular jet nozzle and venturi arrangement. The liquid recirculated may be passed through a heat exchanger. Covers 20 and 22 may be provided on the inlet and outlet chambers 16, 18 of the vessels. The material T may be pre-wetted in a loading tank 26 before treatment takes place in the J-boxes. The material T is preferably plaited into the inlet chamber by means of a liquid jet. The apparatus is advantageously used for dyeing, bleaching, washing and desizing with enzymes, in the latter case, an ultrasonic pneumatically operated generator is provided in the inlet chamber to reduce foaming.
