Abstract

1,003,599. Textile treating apparatus. WALKDEN MAKIN & CO., Ltd. July 20, 1964 [July 18, 1963], No. 28391/63. Heading D1L. In a textile treating machine of the type in which fabric passes through a tank in a zig-zag path guided by an upper and a lower series of rollers, the lower rollers being immersed in the treatment liquor, one or more passageways forming jets is/are arranged at or near one or both ends of each roller or on each roller shaft either radial or tangential thereof, and is/are connected to an axial bore in the roller or through the shaft, said bore being in communication with a source of fluid under pressure whereby the fluid issuing from the jet or jets will cause the roller to rotate. In the Figs. A represents a tank through which fabric passes in a zig-zag path guided by an upper series of rollers (not shown) and a lower series of rollers B immersed in the treatment liquid and mounted to rotate in the tank. Each roller B is formed with a central fluid bore b which registers with the bore c in a coupling c bolted to the outside of the tank and connected to a fluid supply pipe D. The bore b is connected by tangential passageways b<SP>1</SP> to the outer periphery such that fluid admitted from pipe D escapes through passageway, b<SP>1</SP> forming jets and causing roller B to rotate. In a second embodiment passageways b<SP>1</SP> are radial and discharge against baffles in a stationary ring in the tank and surrounding the end of the roller. As fluid, steam may be used thus also heating and circulating the liquor in the tank or the treatment liquid itself may be circulated by a pump. Compressed air or other gas may also be used.
