Abstract
954,098. Cathode-ray storage tubes. MULLARD Ltd. Sept. 24, 1962 [Nov. 27, 1961], No. 42331/61. Heading H1D. In a direct-viewing storage tube such as described in Specification 758,677 or 780,391 the conductive storage matrix 27 of the storage grid is formed as a metal plate having a regular pattern of apertures within each of which is deposited a peripheral lining of secondaryemissive dielectric storage material. The conductive matrix acts as a secondary electron collector in place of the separate grid of the above Specifications. A bombardment induced conductivity effect may also be present. The conductive matrix is preferably proud of the dielectric material on the gun side of the grid. The dielectric material, e.g. talc, is applied by spraying while forcing air through the interstices of the grid and then removed from each face of the grid by abrasion. The tube may have one gun only both for viewing and writing, the transition between the two conditions being achieved by a set of ganged two-way switches in circuit with the various electrodes. In viewing the deflection energy is reduced, while the beam is defocused either deliberately or as a result of the change in the gun condiconditions during viewing.
