Abstract

953,693. Felt D. MORGENSTERN. Aug. 29, 1960 [June 1, 1959], No. 18651/59. Heading D1R. In making a non-woven fabric in sheet form, a fleece comprising feltable fibres is coated on one surface with an adhesive layer so as to form a thin layer of bonded fibres, the adhesive is set and subsequently the fibres are felted. The fleece comprising feltable fibres may consist wholly of feltable fibres or partly thereof and partly unfeltable fibres. Suitable adhesives include rubber (natural and synthetic, vinyl resins, isocyanate resins, polyamides and polyacrylates. In a first embodiment one surface of a feltable fibre fleece 1 is spray-coated with a liquid adhesive which is then dried to form an adhesive layer 2 and the fleece is then felted as at 3. In a second embodiment the fleece is needled through the adhesive layer 2 and is then felted on both sides. In a third embodiment two such fleeces are placed back to back and then needled and felted or alternatively just felted.
