Abstract

822,175. Agglutinated fibrous sheet materials. FREUDENBERG KOMMANDET GESELLSCHAFT AUF AKTIEN., C. Dec. 30, 1955 [Dec. 31, 1954], No. 37374/55. Class 140. [Also in Group XXVIII] A gas filter medium comprises a web of unwoven cardable fibres of 0.5 to 14 denier arranged in generally parallel planes and bonded together at their points of contact or intersections by a film-forming bonding agent leaving between the fibres a plurality of relatively large shallow spaces extending in planes generally parallel to the main planes of the fibres are in staggered formation. A web of suitable fibres, e.g. cotton, kapok, wool, glass, asbestos, cellulose, alginate, casein, or synthetic fibres such as polyvinyl chloride is first coated on one side with a foam of bonding agent, e.g. natural or synthetic rubber or a synthetic resin such as a polyvinyl compound or a phenolic resin and is then passed between rollers during which time the bulk of the foamed bonding agent is injected into the web through the uncoated surface.
