Abstract

770,396. Laminated materials; paper coated with adhesive and fibres. VOKES, Ltd. Oct. 23, 1953 [Oct. 29, 1952], No. 27231/52. Class 140. A filter for fluids is produced by deeply pleating a laminated sheet comprising a sheet of paper impregnated with a synthetic resin but leaving the pores open for passage of filtrate adhered by means of a pervious adhesive which does not form a fluid-tight skin to a layer of felted material. The felted material which may be hair or mineral, vegetable or synthetic fibres, e.g. asbestos, glass, cotton, kapok, cellulose compounds, may be applied either as a finished lap or by spraying the hair or fibre on to the adhesively-coated paper. The resin-impregnated paper may be impregnated sufficiently to stiffen it or may be that described in Specification 746,745, [Group XXVIII], in which the impregnating resin is a mixture of phenol formaldehyde and polyvinyl butyral applied in spirit solution and it may be reinforced with wire mesh or other foraminous material. The impregnating resin may itself form the adhesive.
