Abstract
658,242. Laminated sheet material. NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE FIBRES, Inc. April 20, 1950, No. 4705/47. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 19, 1947.] [Class 140] A laminated panel comprises a batt of compacted indiscriminately arranged relatively stiff fibres, a synthetic resin bonding agent dispersed throughout the batt for adhering the fibres together, and a felt or woven fabric finishing sheet 11 bonded directly to the batt by the bonding agent dispersed within the batt, the fibres of the batt being compacted to such an extent that the resin is accommodated within the batt and is thereby prevented from bleeding through the finishing sheet. The fibres may be sisal, glass wool, slag wool or rock wool and the bonding agent phenol aldehyde. A protective, relatively thin sheet of muslin or cloth 12 may be bonded to the rear face. The batt, with the resin in a liquid or powdered form dispersed therethrough is assembled in a two-part mould 15 with the fabric finishing sheet and protective cloth in position and pressure is applied to obtain the required density of the batt. The mould is held in this position whilst heat is applied to set the resin. The mould may be shaped to produce a design upon the panel as shown in Fig. 3.
