Abstract
953,080. Self-propelled missiles. MINISTER OF AVIATION. July 1, 1958 [July 29, 1957], No. 24024/57. Heading F3A. A rocket projectile is propelled by two concentric charges, the outer of which is the booster charge which provides the rocket with sufficient acceleration to reach a predetermined velocity, while the inner charge burns at a rate sufficient to maintain that velocity. The booster charge is coated with inhibitor at its outer surface and end edges so as to burn over the whole of the inner tubular face, and the combustion gases pass along the annular space between the charges to a ring of nozzles. The inner charge burns only at the rear end and discharges through a single nozzle centrally situated within the first ring of nozzles. The outer nozzles may be inclined to spin the rocket.
