Abstract

1,162,845. Shot pouch and overpowder wad combination. FEDERAL CARTRIDGE CORP. 28 Nov., 1966, No. 53244/66. Heading F3A. Shot pouch and overpowder wad combination, e.g. of plastics, for use in a shotgun cartridge comprising a tubular member 12 divided by a wall 16 into a pouch 14, for shot 32, and a spacer portion 17; an overpowder wad 11 having a cylindrical wall 23 and a hub 25; and a support post 18 yieldably spacing the wall 16 from the wad 11. One or more grooves 19 is provided in the spacer portion 17 to enable the spacer portion to distort radially and form a series of gas sealing surfaces upon firing of the cartridge. An air passage 55 is provided in the wall 16. The shot pouch is divided into segments by a plurality of longitudinal slits (not shown), and the spacer portion 17 may be connected to the wall 23 of the wad through a butt-lap joint 21. The post 18 may also be connected to the hub 25 through a butt-lap joint or through a snap connection. The tubular member 12 separates from the overpowder wad upon firing the cartridge.
