Abstract
961,001. Rocket motors. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. March 19, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 10829/63. Heading F3A. A rocket motor 1 having a plurality of discharge nozzles 6 offset relatively to the longitudinal axis of the motor is provided with means, mounted on the inner surface of the rear end closure, to produce hot gases which flow in opposition to the gases from the main propellant and so protect the closure from destruction by the said propellant gases. The protective means may be a block 7 (Fig. 3) having a plane burning surface or a block 8 (Fig. 3) having a re-entrant burning surface. Holes 10, Fig. 4, may be formed in the block to increase the burning surface. The type of powder used for the block and the configuration thereof depends on the main propellant used.
