Abstract
952,672. Mixing and opening fibres. COTTON, SILK & MAN MADE FIBRES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Jan. 22, 1963 [Nov. 28, 1961], No. 42410/61. Headings DIF and DIN. Bales are broken and fibres partially cleared by a machine provided with means for tearing a plarality of fringes from one or more bales, and means for collecting the fringes and discharging the fibres on to a conveyer, the collecting means being movable to present itself to each fringe in turn The bales are loaded into a hopper 12 where they rest on spiked cylinders 13. Cylinders 13 are provided with driving members having four teeth, these members being mounted at opposite ends of alternate cylinders so that alternate cylinders are driven in opposed directions when their driving members are engaged by leading edges 32, 33 of a "bale plane" 17 that reciprocates under its own power beneath the bales. When a cylinder 13 is being rotated, its associated bale is lifted by rams that may be actuated by hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical devices initiated by electrical means. Contained within the "bale plane" 17 are beating rollers 24, 29, cleaning grids 30 and dirt boxes 31 and beneath the "bale plane" is arranged a conveyer 34 on which fibres are deposited at each reciprocation of the "bale plane". The machine may be used for blending different grades of material.
