Abstract

1,012,675. Opening and mixing fibres. H. RAPP [trading as RAPP & SEIDT]. June 8, 1962 [June 13, 1961], No. 22247/62. Headings D1F and D1N. Slabs of compressed fibres are arranged in horizontal layers in a stack and tufts of fibrous material are removed from end faces of the slabs in directions parallel with the planes of the slabs. The stack is fed towards the tuft removal device by four spiked lattices, such as 4, 6, and pushed through a rectangular compacting frame 6 in front of which the tuft removal device traverses. This device may consist of two picking rollers 7, 8 located between sheet metal panels (Fig. 2, not shown) or grooved rollers 22-26, Fig. 3. The panels or rollers 22-26 may exert resilient adjustable pressure on the fibre stack and prevent excessively large batches of fibrous material being removed from the slabs. Tufts picked off the stack fall onto a grating 12 through which impurities fall and the fibres pass forward over a succession of cleaning rollers 13-16.
