1472619 Flat carding machine OSRODEK BADAWCZO - ROZWOTOWY PRZYGOTOWAWCZYCH MASZYN PRZEDZALNICZYCH LUMATEX 30 Oct 1974 [3 Nov 1973] 47069/74 Heading D1N A flat carding machine comprises a feeding cylinder 2 cooperating with pedals 4, a breaker roller 1 over a seive grid having side walls which are formed with indentations so as to be elastic, a striking off knife 15 to support fibers between the feeding cylinder and sieve, a main cylinder 29 with clotting whose teeth are of alternately different heights, the clotting height being at least five times the tooth height and the ratio of tooth spacing a clotting height being at least four, and a doffing roller 31 with clotting whose teeth are of alternately different height and/or rake angle, 6 locks 50 being slidably provided on guides 51 mounted on the bends 35, the power system for the machine being provided on one side of the machine and a dust extraction system being provided. Feed Roller 2 is opposed by the pedals 4 under the influence of springs 8 but a clearance is maintained by the abutment of pedals 4 with an adjustable strip (9) Fig. 5 (not shown). The striking off knife 15 has two surfaces at an angle to each other to separate waste material and support the fiber respectively, Fig. 8 (not shown). Drive to the machine is provided by a single motor via belts and power distributors which comprise oil filled gearboxes. Drive to the doffing roller, a sliver coiling mechanism and the feed roller is via an adjustable gear box by which their operating speed is variable. Waste Material is withdrawn pneumatically from adjacent the flats, above the doffing roller and below a flat cleaning comb 43 as well as from below the breaker roller. This material is collected on filters in the said chambers and the air recirculated in the case of one of the fans and discharged by the other. Waste material is removed from the filters manually through flaps or through holes to a central waste removing system.
