Abstract

951,809. Valves. IGEWA A.G. June 19, 1961 [June 20, 1960], No. 22027/61. Heading F2V. A float valve controlling the flow of liquid through a filler pipe 1 to a container comprises a butterfly valve member 2, pivoted at 3 to the pipe, the pivot being offset from the pipe axis by a distance a whereby when a float 7 in the container acts to close the valve, the pressure of the liquid entering the pipe assists the closing action. The member 2 may be substantially circular with flattened sides to allow for the offset pivot, or it may be elliptical. The float is carried by an arm 6, pivoted at 5 and acting through links 8 and 9, the latter being fixed to the valve member 2. The arm 9 may additionally be connected to a piston-cylinder device (not shown), one side of the piston being subjected to valve upstream pressure and the opposite side to valve downstream pressure such that as the valve closes, the relatively higher upstream pressure acts to assist the closing of the valve.
