Abstract

948,931. Electromagnetic switches. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. July 28, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 26278/60. Heading H2B. In a sealed contact device having overlapping contact springs the regions of glowdischarge on contact separation consist of or are covered with a metal having a melting point of at least 2,400‹ C. In Fig. 1, magnetic reed contact springs 2, 3 in a sealed glass tube 1 have their ends covered with a metal foil 4 of tungsten, tantalum or molybdenum. Alternatively, the contact glow-discharge surface may be formed by a large headed rivet 5 (Fig. 3). The tube may be filled with a mixture of nitrogen and hydrogen or with argon and the area of glow-discharge may be set by the pressure in the tube as described in Specification 948,932.
