Abstract
1,000,478. Switch contacts. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Aug. 22, 1962 [Aug. 25, 1961], No. 32212/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading H2B. To avoid pitting of contacts in a contact set the contact springs are provided with a carrier layer coating of one material and this is further coated in the contact area with a material whose direction of migration relative to the direction of the current flowing during use in a given circuit is opposite to that of the carrier layer material. For example, the carrier layer may be nickel-iron alloy and the contact material platinum-tungsten or palladium-silver alloy. The layer of contact material is not more than 20Á thick so that no craters or high spots of deleterious size can develop. The carrier material may be a rare metal or alloy to resist corrosion; or the contact set may be sealed in a tube containing protective gas, the composition and pressure of which may be chosen to determine the direction of migration.
