Abstract

833,917. Electromagnetic switches; contact members for switches. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. July 31, 1958 [Aug. 13, 1957], No. 24768/58. Class 38 (5). Magnetic contact springs F1, F2 in a sealed protective tube (not shown) each have a region L1, L2 in the centre of their contact area which has a higher electrical conductivity than the rest of the spring. When the contacts are closed by a magnetic field produced around the tube the current concentrated in the regions L1, L2 produces a magnetic field, shown by a dashed line in Fig. 3, which tends to hold the contacts together. The inserts of higher conductivity material may be connected to terminals such as D and insulated from the remainder of the spring by an oxide film. The springs may be of iron and the inserts of silver. The inserts may be raised slightly above the surface of the springs so that there are two small air gaps in the magnetic path shown in Fig. 3.
