Abstract

947,811. Pipe cutters. LAMURE & CIE S.A. Jan. 4, 1961 [Jan. 5, 1960], No. 418/61. Heading B3W. A pipe cutting apparatus comprises a cutting wheel 20 having an annular cutting edge 22 in the form of two complete circumferentially extending sine waves which depart with equal peak amplitudes from a central plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the wheel. The body 1 of the cutter shown includes a front hookshaped section 2 and a rear cylindrical section 3 connected by a recessed portion 4 across which the pipe to be cut is placed. Four supporting rollers 6, housed in recesses in the section 2 are carried in pairs on spindles 7. A wheel carrying member 10 is slidingly arranged in the cylindrical portion 3. The cutting wheel 20 is rotatably mounted on a spindle 21 extending across and carried by the arms 11 of the member 10. The member 10 is slidably adjustable by a screw-threaded feed member 16. The wheel 20 can be locked in a predetermined angular position by pin which is passed through holes provided in the arms 11 and cutting wheel respectively. In a modification, the cutting wheel is mounted on a strap and fitted on a lathe slide. The tube is secured in the chuck of the lathe and caused to rotate, the cutter wheel being progressively fed into the surface of the tube at the position at which the latter is to be cut.
