916,294. Dressing grinding wheels. JONES & SHIPMAN Ltd., A. A., and HOULDSWORTH, J. Aug. 10, 1961 [July 27, 1960], No. 26119/60. Class 60. A dressing device for grinding wheels comprises a turret 2 carrying at least two diamond tools 4, 5, at angularly-spaced positions and means for rotatably mounting the turret so that the tools may be brought successively into the operative position. The shanks of the tools are located in V-shaped or rectangular grooves formed in the face of the turret member 10 and are clamped therein by a recessed member 15, Fig. 2, secured around a sleeve 8 by a partspherical nut 19 in embodiments having two or three diamond tools only, or by a star-shaped member having an arm bearing on each tool in the case of a turret carrying four or more tools; a grub-screw in each arm secures the associated tool. In all embodiments the overall length of each tool is made adjustable by means of a grub-screw 13 at its inner end, the inner ends of the screws abutting the sleeve 8, which is pinned to the turret body. Projections 9 on the back of the turret engage keyways on the face of the dressing tool supporting arm 3, which may form a part of a pantographic system. A thumb-nut 20 secures the sleeve 8 on its spindle after adjustment of the turret 2. The diamond tip may have an included angle of 40 or 60 degreees, the toolsupporting lobes of the turret body being similarly shaped to provide clearance during the dressing operation.
