Apparatus for cutting tubes To sever tubes, devices are often used which include a cutting wheel which, in combination with a support roller, rotates on the periphery of the tube and determines a straight cutting section along a plane perpendicular to the tube. longi tudinal axis of the tube.
When it comes to assembling two tubes end to end, it is necessary, for the fit to be acceptable, to shape the ends of the tubes, either with a file or with a milling cutter to obtain a jaw casing. -of Wolf. This results, in addition to an appreciable loss of time, a long and delicate handling which requires, when this work has to be carried out in series, special tools.
The aim of the present invention is to create a simple, practical and rational apparatus which makes it possible to cut a tube in the shape of a snapdragon, which eliminates the necessary handling with the usual method.
This device is characterized in that it comprises a wheel whose peripheral cutting edge is cut in the shape of a sinusoid.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus, object of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of this apparatus; fig. 2 is a cross section along the axis A-A of FIG. 1; fig. 3 shows a second cross section along the axis B-B of FIG. 1; fig. 4 is a perspective view of a cutting wheel; fig. 5 is a perspective view of the apparatus.
The body 1 of the apparatus shown forms at the front a hooked part 2 and at the rear a cylindrical part 3 acting as a handle, these two parts leaving between them a recess 4 necessary for the passage of a tube to section 8.
In the hooked front part 2 are reserved housings 5 comprising rollers 6 mounted in pairs on two superimposed pins 7. When the tube 8 bears against the rollers 6, it bears against four tangent points which ensure perfect stability and squareness during the rotation of the apparatus (fig. 1 and 3).
In the cylindrical rear part 3, pierced with a bore 9, can slide a wheel holder 10 constituting, at one of its ends, a yoke 11, tan say that the other end is hollowed out with a bor gne 12. The wheel holder 10 has a longitudinal groove 13 in which engages a flat base 14 of a retaining finger 15 acting as a guide in order to prevent any rotation of the wheel holder 10 during its sliding. .
The advance of the wheel holder 10 is determined by a threaded shank 16 screwed into a cap 17, itself screwed into the end of the bore 9, of the cylindrical part 3 of the body 1. The end of the threaded shank 16 engages in the blind bore 12 of the wheel holder 10 and is held there by a ring 18. Between the bottom of the blind bore 12 and the end of the shank 16, an intermediate ball is disposed. 19.
A cutting wheel 20 is housed between the cheeks of the yoke 11 of the wheel holder 10 and rotates idle on an axis 21. This wheel 20 is cut such that it forms a cutting edge 22 in a sinuoidal sinus pattern, the curves of which are equidistant. of a median axis 23 by determining a snapping profile.
In addition, this wheel is pierced with a transverse orifice 24 (fig. 5) which may correspond with a second orifice 25 made in the cheeks of the yoke 11. By the addition of a pin engaged in the orifices 24 and 25 , it is thus possible to block the wheel 20 in a determined position.
The device operates in the same way as with an ordinary pipe cutter. It suffices to block the tube in a vice and to engage the apparatus on the periphery while bringing the wheel 20, by the threaded shank 16, into contact with the tube. The sectioning of the tube is carried out by rotating the device around the tube by progressively advancing the wheel 20.
To make a snap cut at each end of a tube, it is necessary to let the device hang below the tube, the wheel 20 being locked using the pin. When the wheel is tight and then unpinning, the sectioning of one end of the tube takes place by turning the device, taking care to screw the shank 16 at each turn to determine the advancement of the wheel 20.
Then, without loosening the tube from the vise, the device is repositioned to the desired length. It is necessary to put the pin back in place to block the knob so that the two snapdragons are cut out in the same plane. After having unpinning the wheel 20, the cutting of the other end of the tube is carried out in the manner mentioned.
In addition, this device still allows in a single operation to cut the tubes at a desired angle, with a special cutting wheel. Likewise, it is possible with this device, by changing the cutting wheel, to cut all kinds of steel, copper, etc. tubes. According to an alternative embodiment, the apparatus com takes a yoke of square or rectangular section being mounted on a parallel turn and carrying the carpet. The tube to be cut is then fixed in the mandrel and the knurling cap on the turret like an ordinary tool.
