947,490. Crimping pliers. BUCHANAN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Sept. 23, 1960 [Sept. 29, 1959], No. 32735/60. Heading B4W. A crimping tool comprises a bored die holder 10 rigidly mounted in a carrier member 20 having a number of radially disposed crimping dies 38 mounted therein and an associated operating member 58 provided with a handle member 116 and having a cammed die member actuating surface 56 mounted for rotative displacement relative to the die holder. A control locator member 68 is insertable into the bore 28 for positioning a workpiece and controlling the depth of crimp. Each die has a dependent crimping tooth 50 which passes through a recess in the locator 68, a shoulder 46 on the die engaging with a stop surface disposed on either side of each recess in the locator, to limit the convergence of the dies. The locator member is maintained in position in the bore 28 by a manually displaceable forked slide 96. To ensure the completion of a full operating cycle a notched rack 130 mounted on the operating member 58, is engageable by a pawl mounted on the carrier member 20. A trigger plate 154 is pivoted at 156 on the carrier member 20. A trigger slide 170 mounted on the operating member 58 carries a cam surface 180. A link 176 mounted on the member 170 so as to be radially disposed to the bore 28, has the end adapted to abut with the surface of the locator 68 by engagement of the end of the link in a recess in the locator. On completion of the full crimping stroke, the cam surface 180, engages a trigger pin 152 on the plate 154 and causes disengagement of the pawl from the rack. The rack is thrown back along its path of travel by a spring 160 mounted on the handle 120 and assists in separating the handles and resetting the pawl assembly. The handle 120 is utilised to store a number of locator members of varying sizes. Specification 886,259 is referred to.
