Abstract

367,221. Crimping blasting detonators. ROLFES, C., President Siding, Germiston, Transvaal, South Africa. March 31, 1931, No. 9798. [Class 9 (i).] Relates to hand tools or pliers for crimping detonator caps to fuzes, of the kind comprising two mutually pivoted levers one of which carries a plurality of dies which converge towards a central aperture when the levers are operated. According to the invention, the dies are mounted in radial slots on one lever and each die is connected by a toggle link to an annular housing on the other member. In the construction shown, the device comprises two levers 3, 4. The lever 3 is formed integral with a boss 5 having radial slots 7 in which slide dies 8 which are articulated by links 11 to a circular housing 9. This housing is pivotally mounted around the boss 5 and is integrally formed with the lever 4. The parts are secured together by screws 12 screwed to the boss 5 and co-operating with slots 13 in the housing 9. On moving the levers towards each other, the links 11 force the dies 8 towards a central aperture 6 in which is inserted the detonator cap 14. The dies may be formed with teeth 15 formed in the manner described in Specification 356,542. The boss 5 may be formed with an extension 16 into which is screwed a set-screw 17. The latter serves to provide adjustable means for positioning the detonator cap during crimping.
