Abstract

745,691. Crimping pliers. AIRCRAFT-MARINE PRODUCTS, Inc. Aug. 25, 1953 [Aug. 25, 1952], No. 23422/53. Class 61 In pliers for crimping electrical connectors, comprising a head provided with one or more crimping moulds and a plunger having one or more dies aligned with the moulds, a pair of pivoted handles connected to the plunger and a magazine containing a supply of blank connectors, manually operated means are provided the said means being operated independently of the handles whereby the conector blanks are fed as desired into crimping position. The magazine 66 is slidably housed in the channel 64 in the U-shaped member 42 which is riveted at 44 to the crimping head 14 and has forwardly extending arms 46 each provided with a slot 46a for positioning the ends of the wires to be connected. The magazine is slidable on the inclined surface of a ramp-like member 60 which is fixed to the plunger 26, a spring-pressed magazine retracting pin 58 mounted in the plunger projecting through a notch 62 in the member 60 and engaging a longitudinal slot 82 in the base of the magazine. The connectors are urged by a spring towards the delivery opening 70 in the magazine. The loaded magazine is inserted when the handles are closed and the plunger is in advanced position. On separating the handles the plunger is retracted and with it the magazine a part of the inclined surface of the member 60 forming a closure for the delivery opening 70. The magazine is retained in retracted position by detent elements 94, 96. When the plunger has been fully retracted the magazine is manually advanced whereupon a connector blank drops, through the opening 70 into the path of the plunger 26. The handles are then brought together to advance the plunger thereby positioning the connector against the moulds 30, 32, 34. As the plunger advances the spring pin 58 reaches the slot 82 in the magazine and moves upwardly into engagement therewith. A ratchet mechanism prevents separation of the handles until after they have been closed sufficiently to crimp the connector. An insulation stripper 38 is provided.
