Abstract
1380862 Crimping tools AMP Inc 16 Jan 1973 [8 Feb 1972 23 Aug 1972] 2143/73 Heading B4W [Also in Division B3] An electrical connector 19, Fig. 1, is crimped to a conductor 23 of a flat cable 22 by a ram 46, Fig. 8, and an anvil 20, the ram pushing the connector through a slot 47 in a holder 18 into which it was inserted through a lateral aperture 9, Fig. 6, and means 57 being provided for biasing the holder towards, and the ram away from, the anvil. The first form is a hand-operated tool operated by a lever 15 which co-operates with a full-stroke pawl 56 and a rack 17, a stop-screw 55 limiting movement of the lever which is connected to a plunger 45 by a pin 48. The ram 46 is mounted on the plunger, and a spring 57 acts between the plunger 45 and the holder 18. A clamp 26 fixed by screws 34 secures the cable 22 to a carriage 25 which has teeth 63 engaged by a pawl 66 for traverse of the slide to align a further conductor with the ram. The pawl is operated by upward movement of a spring- returned plunger 64. A cam 40 for raising the holder 18 against the spring 57 is turned by pressure on a rod (35), Fig. 4 (not shown), connected by a lever (36) to the cam. Sidewalls of the connector pierce the cable insulation, and are turned back by grooves in the anvil to contact the conductor.
