Abstract

An apparatus for stressing an electrical contact on a cable conductor, comprising a hammer and an anvil, a mechanism for moving the hammer and anvil relative to one another between an open position and a closed upsetting position, a movable contact carrier having a groove through which the hammer extends to the anvil, an opening in the contact carrier that communicates with the groove to allow electrical contact to be placed in the groove, resulting in movement of the hammer through the groove towards the anvil so that the electrical contact, when located in the groove, passes along the groove for its upset connection to a conductor of a cable, when it is located in the anvil, and a spring to load the hammer towards the open position, characterized in that the spring also loads the contact carrier towards the anvil and that the hammer and contact carrier are retained at least partially within one al eyelet and anvil is indirectly connected.
