Abstract

1294185 Electromagnetic contactors SQUARE D CO 7 July 1970 [23 July 1967] 32811/70 Heading H1N The contact bridge of an electromagnetic contactor has a laminated channel cross-section of two metals having different deflection and conductive characteristics and the bridge is removably mounted on a plunger extending through a notched opening in the bridge to retain the bridge on a contact carrier. As shown the contact bridge has an outer copper layer 120 and an inner strengthening steel layer 118 and noble metal contacts 130, 132. The sides 124 of the bridge are located between side walls 116 of the contact carrier 82 which has a bore 108, 110, in which the plunger (136) is movable under the bias of a spring 160 which urges a pin (134), on the plunger, against the upper side of the bridge between projections 152, 154. When the plunger is turned so that the pin (134) is aligned with notches 148 the contact bridge may be removed. The sides of the notches 148 are inclined to facilitate rotation of the plunger and pin to its contact retaining position. The end of the plunger within the carrier 82 has a piston action therein to assist in overcoming contact bounce which is limited by the minimum mass of the laminated bridge contact member.
