Abstract

1453404 Contactor auxiliary interlock WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 7 March 1975 [14 March 1974] 9638/75 Heading H1N An auxiliary interlock for a contactor subject to vibration has a movable conductive contact carrier 44 carrying movable contact buttons 28 and resilient contacts 72, the latter being closer to the stationary contacts 30 than the contact buttons so that they will "make" first and remain resiliently pressed against the stationary contacts if the button contacts momentarily separate due to shock or excessive vibration. The resilient contacts may be of berylliumcopper alloy strip bent into a U-formation at the ends. The contact carrier 44 is mounted on an operating arm 42 which is slidable in the housing 24 and extends therethrough to provide a portion 56 for operation by the arm of the contactor (Fig. 1, not shown). In the "normally open" arrangement shown closure is effected by downward movement of rod 42, transmitted via bearing plate 50 and spring 46 which overcomes the resistance of spring 48. The assembly may be inverted to provide a "normally closed" arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) by lodging the bearing plate 50 against shoulders 64 instead of 62 so that the spring 46 is compressed.
