Abstract

1,259,567. Retractive switches. INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP. 29 July, 1970 [4 Aug., 1969], No. 36703/70. Heading H1N. A push-button switch is rendered chatterless by providing a contact bridge of silicone rubber filled with metal particles to make it conductive, the surface metal particles being brought into contact with stationary contacts by slight deformation of the silicone rubber upon actuation of the switch button, and the conductivity of the silicone rubber part not being substantially altered during such operation. As shown, an impregnated silicone rubber member 7 is loosely retained on printed-circuit contacts 8 by an annulus 9 secured to a base-plate 3<SP>1</SP>. An actuator button 2, urged by a spring 1 against shoulder 311 of housing 3, carries an intermediate member 5 by means of a rivet-like member 4 and helical spring 6 such that upon depression of button 2 the member 5 slightly deforms the silicone member 7 to cause the metal particles therein to pierce the surface thereof and interconnect stationary contacts 8, but the force applied to button 2 cannot act directly on member 7. It is stated that the unoperated contact resistance is greater than one megohm while the operated value is about twenty ohms.
