Abstract

973,549. Retractive switches. CUTLERHAMMER Inc. May 15, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 19278/63. Heading H2B. A trigger-type switch for portable power tools is provided with selector means which can be set to cause bridging of different fixed contacts when the switch is operated. An operating member 8 carries a selector shaft 10 having at one end a knurled head 10a and at the other end a moving contact carrier 26 reciprocable within an insulating casing 2. U-shaped fixed contacts 16, 18, 20 and 22 are inserted in slots in casing 2, whereby one leg of each extends inside the casing 2 to co-operate with bridging contacts 32, 34 on carrier 26 and the other leg extends outside the casing 2 to form a terminal. An insulating frame 6 and metal cover 4 (secured to casing 2 by lugs 4g) retain the fixed contacts in position. Springs 12 and 14 provide retraction of member 8. The contacts 32, 34 shaped as shown can be rotated in 90 degrees steps by means of the knurled head 10a such that upon depression of member 8 they separately bridge contacts 16, 18 and 20, 22 (Figs. 10 and 12, not shown) or contacts 18, 20 and 16, 22 (Figs. 11 and 13, not shown). Projections 2j inside casing 2 prevent rotation of the moving contact assembly while in the operated condition. A button 30 carried by lug 4c of the cover 4 provides optional latching of member 8 in the operated position.
