Abstract

1347714 Hair-clippers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 25 May 1971 [28 May 1970] 16953/71 Heading B4B A hair-clipping device 2 comprises a cutter 1 which is manually displaceable by means of a sliding knob 5 between an extended position and a retracted position relative to the device, the sliding knob being arranged to move a pin 6 which is coupled to the cutter by means 7 such that the distance through which the cutter is displaced between the extended and retracted positions is greater than the distance through which the sliding knob is moved to produce this displacement of the cutter. The cutter 1 is mounted for reciprocable movement in a housing 4 which is slidably mounted in a casing 3. A two-armed lever 7 is pivotally-mounted on the pin 6, one arm 10 being engagable via a pin 11 in a slot 12 formed in the housing and the other being engagable via a pin 13 in a slot 14 provided in the casing. A spring 9 acts against the pin 13 so that when the knob 5 is moved downwardly and the lever moves beyond the overcentre position, the spring causes the housing 4 to be rapidly retracted into the casing 3. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, a pair of pins 6, 6<SP>1</SP> are mounted on the knob 5 and pivotallyconnected via hinged links 15, 15<SP>1</SP>, 18, 18<SP>1</SP> and levers 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. An over-centre spring 9 is connected to pins 17, 17<SP>1</SP> mounted on the short arms of the levers 7, 7<SP>1</SP>.
