Abstract
946,852. Vibration dampers. SCHWITZER CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1961 [Dec. 5, 1960], No. 43015/61. Heading H2C. A vibration damper for cables comprises a cable clamp with resilient arms extending laterally from the clamp, the arms coming together or joining further arms which support an inertial weight. As shown, Fig. 1, a rubber body 13 has an open seam through which the cable is urged into the axial aperture 14 of the body, the sides of the seam being then tightened against one another by a clamping assembly comprising plates 19 and bolts 21. Arms 22 of the same material as the body extend laterally from the body in a plane and are joined at their ends to a further pair of arms 24 having at their junction a hollow block 26 of similar material which houses a weight 27. The junctions of the two pairs of arms 22, 24 are reinforced by metal inserts 29. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the two pairs of arms meet each other in a smooth curve, the reinforcement, if desired, being of fabric. No clamping assembly is necessary in this embodiment, the cable being urged through the seam and held in the axial aperture by resilient action of the body portion.
