Abstract
805,872. Suspending cables. PREFORMED LINE PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 15, 1955, No. 26433/55. Class 36. [Also in Group XXV] Reinforcement for a cable comprises a plurality of helically-preformed rods which are applied about the cable to form a short envelope A whose internal diameter is greater than the diameter of the cable C, clamps D being provided which grip the external surfaces of the reinforcement. The clamps D may be eccentrically weighted for vibration damping. An annular plastic member B (Fig. 3) may be compressed in the space between the reinforcement and the cable and the clamps may engage the reinforcement at positions overlying the member B. Two spaced members B (Fig. 9), may be placed on the cable and enclosed in tube A which is expanded by the members B. Suspension clamp E between the members B compresses the tube A without causing it to grip the cable, which is however held against axial movement by the members B. In another arrangement, two tubes made of helically-preformed rods so as to tightly engage the cable (Fig. 11) are spaced apart on the cable, and the tube A applied so as to bridge the gap therebetween and firmly grip the ends thereof, the gap being filled with plastic member B if desired. In another modification, the rods forming the tube A may be coated with plastic and the member B may then be dispensed with. Specifications 781,670 and 805,333 are referred to.
