1295880 Vibration dampers for cables A SALVI & C SpA 31 Dec 1969 [5 Aug 1969] 63571/69 Addition to 1200361 Heading F2S The vibration damper of the parent Specification is modified in that the resilient member, or carrying cable, consists of a wire rope having a central straight wire with at least 18 wires twisted helically about it. In the embodiment shown, the wire rope is of galvanized steel construction, and an inner layer of 6 wires in direct contact with the central wire has an outer layer of 12 wires, twisted in the opposite sense, and having a different stranding lay P<SP>1</SP> to that of the inner layer. It is stated that the use of such a resilient member leads to more uniform damping characteristics than, for example, a 7 wire cable, and bushes (A, B), Fig. 3 (not shown), clamped to the cable adjacent its centre and ends, further improve the uniformity of the damping characteristics.
