Abstract

Textile materials of polymers of acrylonitrile including copolymers containing at least 85% acrylonitrile are printed by applying a print paste containing a disperse dye and thiourea. The paste may suitably contain 4-12% thiourea, especially 6-10% by weight. Other adjuvants may be present; those specified are sodium m-nitrobenzene sulphonate, ethanol, thiodiglycol and the thickeners starch, ethyl cellulose, locust bean gum, sodiuum alginate, oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions or preferably 'Nafka' crystal gum as well as formaldehyde-naphthalene sulphonic acid condensates and phenol-ethylene oxide condensates as dispersing agents. The paste may be applied by hand-block, screen or roller printing techniques. After printing the textile materials may be steamed at atmospheric pressure for 10-30 minutes. Examples of printing acrylic fabrics are given.
