Abstract

Fibres of polymers or copolymers of acrylonitrile (including polyvinylidene cyanide) are dyed or printed with a disperse dyestuff in the presence of a cationic dispersing agent containing a quaternary ammonium group. The cationic dispersing agent may be admixed with the dyestuff and added to the dyebath or paste. Alternatively, the dyestuff may be admixed with a non-ionic dispersing agent and added to the bath or paste containing a cationic dispersing agent. As a further alternative, the fibres may be pretreated with a cationic dispersing agent. Numerous examples are given. Specification 738,306 is referred to.
