Abstract

1290668 Dyeing proteinaceous fibrous materials I W S NOMINEE CO Ltd 13 March 1970 [16 Dec 1968] 59783/68 Heading D1B Proteinaceous fibrous materials, e.g. wool, are treated with a swelling agent comprising urea and a water-soluble reducing agent comprising an alkali metal or ammonium thiosulphate or hypophosphite followed by dyeing with acid, reactive, basic, disperse, mordant and pigment dyes. The urea and reducing agent may be applied in a print paste the fibres then being dyed, or fibres treated with urea and reducing agent may be blended with untreated fibres and the fibre blend dyed to give a two tone effect. Mordanted fibres may also be added to the blend which is then dyed with a chrome dye and another dye for the proteinaceous material. The pretreatment is preferably effected at 50-150‹C in aqueous solution.
